We work closely
with Pediatric Hematologists/Oncologists at the Children's Hospital of
NewYork Presbyterian to deliver the most advanced, informed, and compassionate
care available. We have extensive experience with both the common
forms of pediatric cancer, such as Wilms tumor, neuroblastoma, and germ
cell tumors, as well as rare tumors. The Children's Hospital of NewYork
Presbyterian is a primary affiliate of the national Children's
Oncology Group (CCG), and our patients have access to their studies
and protocols at every step of their care.
We are committed
to expanding the treatment options for children with cancer in every way
possible. One of the special programs we have developed at the Children's
Hospital of NewYork Presbyterian involves the use of Minimal Access surgery
(laparoscopy and thoracoscopy) in the diagnosis and treatment of certain
types of pediatric cancer. These special techniques can, in many
cases, improve our diagnostic capabilities and add to the comfort of our
oncology patients.
Ultimately,
perhaps the most important way in which we can advance pediatric cancer
care is through research. The Pediatric Surgical
Laboratory at the Children's Hospital of NewYork Presbyterian is committed
to the study of childhood tumors which are difficult to treat. We
believe that, just as children deserve the special environment of a children's
hospital, children with cancer deserve the particular attention of pediatric
research scientists.
