Ms. Flanigan
is a graduate of the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in Boston.
In 1976 she completed the certification program as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
at Catholic University. She received her Baccalaureate from St. Peter’s
College and a Masters in Nursing with a specialty in Pediatric Advanced
Practice from Rutger’s University.
Her nursing
experience includes pediatric surgical nursing in varied capacities.
After several
years at The Children’s Hospital in Boston, she went to The Children’s
Hospital in Washington, D.C. where she worked as the Pediatric Surgical
Nurse Coordinator for the Chief of Surgery for over ten years. For
nine years she was the Head Nurse of the Pediatric Unit at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock
Medical Center. In 1984 she became the Clinical Manager of the Children’s
Hospital of NewYork Presbyterian Operating Rooms. She assumed her
current position as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) for the Division
of Pediatric Surgery in 1993.
Ms. Flanigan
was elected to Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honor society. She has
certification as a Pediatric Nurse by National Association of Pediatric
Nurse Associates & Practitioners and as a Perioperative Nurse by the
Association of Operating Room Nurses. In addition, she holds a faculty
appointment at the Columbia School of Nursing.
Ms. Flanigan
is an active member and recently served as President of the American
Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association. She has spoken on a variety
of pediatric surgical subjects at the institutional, local and national
level. She is author and coauthor of a number of articles in nursing
and medical publications.
As the PNP
for the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Ms. Flanigan is responsible for
coordination of perioperative care for pediatric surgical patients.
In addition to providing direct care, she does teaching and counseling
for patients and their families on a wide variety of pediatric surgical
problems. She provides education and consultation to nursing and
residents on pediatric surgical issues.
